Project: None A Week
Focus Area: Policy Advocacy

Grace Williams is the Founder and Director of Citizen Tasmania, a cultural organisation that provides individuals with the means to tackle human rights challenges within their communities through education, empowerment and connection.

In 2020, Grace produced and directed the film One A Week after she learned about the murder of Jessica Ann Kupsch in her hometown of Launceston, Tasmania. In Grace’s attempt to understand the nature of the murder, she discovered the common pattern of domestic violence that was of global significance.

In Australia, one woman each week is murdered by a current or former partner. This statistic fluctuates depending on a country’s population, but domestic violence is the leading cause of violence against women globally. Every day, 137 women across the world are killed by a partner or member of their own family, making home the most dangerous place for a woman.

Grace launched the None A Week Campaign during her final year of law school to transform Australia’s domestic violence crisis from one a week to none a week. The None A Week campaign will educate and empower young people to tackle gender inequality, the underlying cause of domestic violence.
