Project: The Oasis Project
Pronouns: They/Them

As a non-binary, openly gay activist and Co-Founder of The Oasis Project, a community-led LGBTQ+ organization in Nigeria, Blaise has dedicated their life to confronting the violence towards gender non-conforming persons and LGBTQ+ people in Nigeria. The mission of The Oasis Project is to create safe spaces, foster discussion and strategy, mobilize members in direct action, and create greater awareness among Nigerians and Africans of the abundance and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community through in-person and online events.

How does The Oasis Project address systemic inequality and injustice?

Today, Nigeria is regarded as the most hazardous country for the LGBTQ+ community. The majority endure prosecution, assault, intimidation, and discrimination because of their sexual orientation and gender identity daily. We provide a safe place to connect and engage, find camaraderie and support, and celebrate the vibrancy, growth and the journey towards acceptance. We also run a resource centre where minorities get mental and sexual health advice, as well as emergency assistance

We are working to create a society of more aware and diverse people where human rights are guaranteed regardless of gender identity, sexual orientation, and affiliation.
