Project: The Cramm
Basic Human Needs: Education
During the 2016 U.S. Presidential election, students at Olivia’s school took a newfound interest in politics. Olivia quickly noticed a lack of engaging media that both accurately informed and engaged teens who were interested in current events. In 2017, Olivia launched The Cramm to offer Gen Z’s perspectives on important news and give young people the tools to create change. Instead of a traditional newspaper article format, The Cramm streamlines the news and delivers it in 5-minute emails, texts, videos or Instagram stories. Its monthly viewership has grown to 2.5 million in 80 countries. In 2019, Olivia was invited to speak at the 2019 NATO Engages in London, interviewed on NPR’s Weekend Edition and The Cramm was featured on the TODAY Show, as well as publications including Teen Vogue, The Economist and Forbes. The Cramm also recently established an ambassador program, which has already involved 300 teens around the world in contributing to The Cramm and spreading the news. In 2020, Olivia plans to create a variety of video content in multiple languages and to expand the community of “Crammers” to additional countries. She also seeks to highlight more opportunities for readers to take action and create change. Olivia ultimately hopes to build a media empire that includes a 24-hour live news site, with journalists and correspondents all over the world.
