DR. RENA JONES
Rena is an environmental epidemiologist. An Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Yale School of Public Health and an Investigator at the National Cancer Institute, Rena holds M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in epidemiology from the SUNY Albany School of Public Health. Her research focuses on measuring and characterizing environmental contaminants in epidemiologic studies that aim to understand their relationship to health risks. She currently works on projects to characterize long-term exposure to environmental factors in studies of cancer. She is a member of national and international professional organizations in environmental science and public health. Rena has balanced an active research career with her passion for mentoring, maintaining positions at both Yale and at Columbia University to indulge these interests. Most recently, she was a coach for the Afro-Academic, Cultural, Technological and Scientific Olympics sponsored by the Washington D.C. NAACP. Rena’s mentoring philosophy is to foster skillsets that enable mentees to self-empower and to continue their own growth. She enjoys combining her scientific expertise with creative thinking to encourage this development. Rena lives in Washington D.C. She loves to travel, the outdoors, and to pamper her two dogs!
