Project: The Freedom Neighborhood
Focus Area: Voter & Civic Education

Glenn is the founder and lead organizer of The Freedom Neighborhood – a youth-led organization that advocates for the social, political and economic liberation of Black people and marginalized communities in the Washington D.C. area. After the constant news of police brutality and injustices in 2020, Glenn and three friends conceived The Freedom Neighborhood in June 2020.

Based in Washington D.C., The Freedom Neighborhood has been featured in The New York Times and PBS Newshour for their unorthodox methods of organizing. In addition to leading peaceful protests, they provide resources to prepare students for a pandemic-centric school year, assist families with rent and food necessities, give legal support to protestors, and act as an overall service to their community. They also registered 500+ D.C. residents to vote in the 2020 election.

Glenn believes a revolution doesn’t just happen on the frontlines, but the biggest change happens in homes, churches and schools. The Freedom Neighborhood is cultivating a community of equality and true care for one another’s well being. The organization’s work is just beginning, and Glenn is excited to play a role in creating history and shaping a society that serves us all.

“The revolution does not just happen on the front lines, it happens in our communities, it happens in the churches, in the neighborhoods...I’m so grateful for people like you and this organization to make sure that we are not alone in this fight...I’m glad that we have people that say I see you and I want to help you.”
