Project: The Migration and Migration Alignment (MAMA)
Focus Area: Refugee and Asylum
At age 27, Pearl is the founder of Migration and Migration Alignment (MAMA) based in Milan, Italy.
MAMA works to support African migrants, refugees and asylum seekers as they integrate into foreign communities in Milan, Italy. They assist vulnerable minority populations to adapt in their host country, and create and offer opportunities for them to make a positive impact through service in their new communities. MAMA’s initiative “May I?” organizes learning experiences, social events and volunteer activities, and promotes existing opportunities and resources to connect migrants with their host communities.
MAMA has impacted more than 120 migrants, refugees and asylum seekers by helping them resolve documentation issues, strengthening their community ties, engaging them in volunteer service, assisting them in securing employment and providing household items during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“African migrants are the least integrated into society especially in Milan...it’s just like Ok, you come into the country, you stay there and you try and figure out life for yourself.”
