HEATHER MCKELLAR, PHD
She/Her
Heather is the Executive Director of the Neuroscience Institute at NYU Langone Health, which aims to inspire and nurture research, train the next generation of neuroscientists, and drive breakthroughs that move theory to therapy to improve brain health. She oversees a team of 14 that coordinates education initiatives, supports the research mission, and ensures faculty, students, and staff are part of a collaborative, creative, and supportive environment. Heather is also heavily invested in bringing neuroscience to the public. She is a past president of the Greater New York City Chapter of the Society for Neuroscience (braiNY) and started the Neuroscience Outreach Group at NYU (NOGN). Both of these roles have allowed her to host public outreach events that bring brains to the streets of New York City. In 2011, along with Catherine Peña and Kelley Remole, she was recognized with the Next Generation Award from the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) for her work with Columbia University Neuroscience Outreach. As a member of the Public Education and Communication and Government and Public Affairs Committees for SfN she has helped to support public-facing programs and initiatives. Heather is excited to bring together her passion for outreach and mentoring in her role as a Three Dot Dash Mentor.
